2nd Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week

image title

Yippee! Last year I kind of just skulked around the Blog Hub Group on Ravelry for this week of fiber posts, and this year I am jumping in!

Today's topic is "A tale of two yarns" which is perfect for me because I am just beginning to really understand yarn . I still dive off the deep end buying something that looks pretty, or feels soft, but I am beginning to have some favorites. I can't afford to be a yarn snob, but I do have some yarn snob tendencies!
So first up a yarn I LOOOOOVE. I have yet to make anything from it mind you, but it is seriously the softest thing I have ever felt. I bought it on the advice of my personal knitting Guru Gace. Grace ran my group at the Dyker Heights Library in Brooklyn and the amount of knitting knowledge in her head is astounding. We went up to the NY sheep and Wool as a group , Grace led us to some fantastic little places. I would have never have stopped by the booth if not for Grace. The booth was Times Remembered...
The yarn is a sport weight alpaca in a hank of 665 yrds. I bought it to make my mom a summer shawl. The shawl has been started and ripped out three times but I still LOOOOVE this yarn. Maybe I won't make something by the time Sheep and Wool rolls around again, but I will for sure be buying more of this yarn!

A yarn that I have not been loving on as much is purple bulky I bought at Sheep and Wool. I specifically bought it because it matched buttons I bought. It is a really nice purple, but it is not knitting up bulky and it is super scratchy and I really have no firm idea how much I have. I bought it to make a Shalom Cardigan but it just isn't working out, so now I am trying to find something for it.

It looks bulky but no it knits more like a 2 ply. It is my albatross. Maybe I'll just make something to felt...
