Works in Progress

It is still Wednesday right? Well. I still have yet to cast on that dress, and now I am attempting to start it whilst participating in my first ever Knit Along.

I have had the Shalom Cardigan in my queue FOREVER. It was supposed to be my Rhinebeck sweater 2010, but because I wanted to modify the heck out of it I went with the Tea Leaves instead. But now, oh now, now I find that the modifications I need were on Ravelry the whole time! Step by step, row by row I am following the modifications of a nuclear engineering PhD student in Illinois. She created a lovely Shalom in grey that a) was larger than a medium, b) long sleeved and c) had buttons all down the front. I for one would like to send her chocolate. You see the Shalom is a yoked sweater that originally only had one button at the top and no sleeves. I am not a fan of the one, two or three button cardis (yes the tea leaves is only three buttons, but I admit I wanted to modify that too!) because I don't like that they make me look pregnant. When I AM pregnant I will wear a top closure only. But right now as I wallow in negative pregnancy tests I would like my midriff covered thank you very much. Also secretly I am hoping that by knitting something that fits now all buttoned up, a pregnancy will soon follow...

Anyway. I was sure I would have started my dress by now, but Linda over at Natural Suburbia is running a Knit Along of the Shalom. And after about 5 seconds of deliberation I jumped in (seriously read the comments, I waffle for about a minute before posting that I was in).

I have about 15 rows done now- which is why I am posting late, I had to work on it today while the boys played in the sun. I sat on the porch steps, in the shade (I got seriously burned yesterday in the lovely 80 degree weather) knitting with 100% wool. I am using Cascade Yarns Eco+ in a Shire, a lovely dark green. Perfect for knitting now, in the humid almost summer......

Hi, can't wait to see yours on Wednesday! I'm going back now to rip out and make some modifications too... I was so eager to get cracking that I didn't really turn my brain on first. I'm adding some buttons too. I'm curious, whose modifications are you following?
